There are a handful of examples of divine help that are clearly laid out in the Bible. 1. Exodus 14:21-22 – Parting of the Red Sea
“Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.”
- This dramatic event shows God’s help to the Israelites as they escape Pharaoh’s army. God’s miraculous intervention allowed them to pass through the Red Sea unharmed.
2. Joshua 10:12-14 – The Sun Stands Still
“On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel: ‘Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.’ So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.”

3. 1 Kings 17:8-16 – Elijah and the Widow of Zarephath
“The word of the Lord came to him: ‘Go at once to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there. I have commanded a widow in that place to supply you with food.’”
- During a severe famine, God provided for Elijah, the widow, and her son by multiplying their supply of flour and oil, demonstrating God’s provision even in times of scarcity.
4. Daniel 3:24-25 – The Fiery Furnace
“Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, ‘Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?’ They replied, ‘Certainly, Your Majesty.’ He said, ‘Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.’”
- God’s divine help is clearly seen when He protected Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. Not only did He prevent them from being harmed, but He also appeared with them in the fire.
5. 2 Chronicles 20:15-17 – Jehoshaphat’s Prayer
“He said: ‘Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem.’”
- King Jehoshaphat, faced with an overwhelming enemy army, turns to God for help. God assures him that the battle is His, and He miraculously defeats the enemy without the Israelites lifting a sword.
6. Psalm 121:1-2 – God as the Helper
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
- This psalm highlights God as the ultimate source of help, emphasizing His power and sovereignty over all creation.
7. Matthew 14:29-31 – Jesus Walks on Water
“’Come,’ he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.”
- When Peter began to sink while walking on water, he cried out to Jesus for help, and Jesus immediately responded by saving him.
